雙方今天形成一場投手戰，藍鳥隊派出季中從海盜隊交易來的Francisco Liriano，而光芒則是由本季表現不錯的Jake Odorizzi主投，兩位先發今天都投滿6局以上，而且都能有效壓制對方打者，退場時雙方以2：2平手。
雙方上半場都未能突破對方投手的封鎖，5局打完1分未得，直到6局下才由「包大砲」Jose Bautista轟出打破僵局的2分砲，為藍鳥取得2：0的領先。不過光芒隨即在7局上，靠著Evan Longoria和Brad Miller的「B2B」陽春彈，連追2分扳平比數。
丟掉領先的藍鳥，在8局下換上代打Carrera，希望能尋求上壘機會，但他一上來就轟出左外野深遠的飛球，一路飛出全壘打牆外，這意外的一擊為楓葉軍團再次要回領先，並最終就以3：2擊敗對手。
這場勝利幫藍鳥擠下金鶯成為美聯第一外卡點，而且距離美東龍頭紅襪只剩下2場勝差，他們下一場將派出Marcus Stroman出戰本系列賽的第2戰。
